Depression

Depression is a common mental health condition that can affect how you think, feel and navigate everyday life, often leaving you feeling persistently low, overwhelmed, exhausted or disconnected from the things you once enjoyed. It is more common than many people realise, with an estimated 1 in 6 Australians experiencing low mood at some point in their life. Just because it’s common, doesn’t mean you should struggle in silence.

Symptoms of Depressions

Persistent low mood

Withdrawal from social interactions

Changes to sleep patterns, either insomnia or increased sleep

Sense of hopelessness

Low self esteem

Recurring thoughts of self harm or suicide

How we work with depression

Depression, when left untreated, can persist for months, years and decades and grow in severity. However thought patterns such as, “It’s not bad enough”, “I’m not worthy of seeking support” or “Nobody can help me”, can prevent individuals from seeking support.

We will work with you to understand how depression is uniquely affecting you and develop a tailored plan to minimise your symptoms.

Using therapeutic approaches, such as CBT we will explore, identify and work towards challenging negative or distorted thought patterns as well as help you re-engage in rewarding and enjoyable activities.

Where required, your GP may prescribe anti-depressant medication to supplement the therapeutic work done with a psychologist. While we can support you while adjusting to medication through the development of mindfulness and grounding strategies, we are not able to prescribe medication.
