Bipolar
Bipolar Disorder is a mood disorder that involves episodes of mania and depression. Depending on the type, an individual may experience varied levels of mania and symptoms may be expressed in a variety of ways — high energy, racing thoughts, decreased need for sleep, sense of grandiosity, impulsive behaviour, irritability and in some cases, psychosis.
Mood swings can often be misinterpreted as Bipolar, however an important distinction is that mood swings are brief changes to an individuals emotions, in response to daily life events whereas Bipolar Disorder involves extreme mood changes that last days, weeks, or months, and can happen without a trigger.
